The Lesson of Atiala: Take Action and Direct Your Destiny

Never leave everything to chance. Remember the traditional account of a remarkable bird called Atiala Omo Atioro, commonly known simply as Atiala.

Atiala is said to be a bird that cannot fly against the wind. The wind tosses it from left to right until it is eventually carried away and abandoned somewhere. Atiala cannot resist the wind, control its direction, or find protection from its force.

Other great birds, however, confront powerful winds and continue flying. Through strength, courage, skill, and control, they rise above the pressure of the wind. Instead of being carried helplessly, they use resistance to elevate themselves and continue toward their destination.

The story of Atiala is a teaching about human life. It warns us not to surrender our direction entirely to circumstances.

Do Not Let External Forces Direct Your Life

Never allow a belief about destiny, fate, ancestral difficulties, the negative words of others, or your personal doubts to disrupt the rhythm and trajectory of your life.

Do not allow anything outside you to dictate the tune of your existence. Choose the right music and learn to move according to its rhythm. Your decisions, habits, associations, prayers, discipline, and actions all influence the direction in which you travel.

Many people live like Atiala. They believe that whatever is destined to happen will happen regardless of their choices. This is an incomplete understanding of how the universe operates and a misunderstanding of the sacredness of life.

Destiny is not an invitation to remain passive. It is a sacred potential that must be supported through wisdom, effort, good character, spiritual alignment, and responsible action.

Prepare Yourself for the Arena of Life

A person entering a boxing arena may clench the hand into a fist and prepare the body for action. If that person remains unprepared and refuses to respond, the opponent will dominate the contest.

Life also requires preparation.

Make a decision. Take action. Maintain discipline and embrace diligent work. Seek the company of people with wisdom, intellectual depth, good character, and sound spiritual understanding.

Pray with sincerity. Fast responsibly when appropriate for your health. Undertake prescribed sacrifices and other spiritual observances only according to proper divination and under the guidance of a knowledgeable and trustworthy Ìṣẹ̀ṣe practitioner.

Spiritual practice should empower responsible action rather than replace it.

Energy and Association Matter

Energy is magnetic. Remaining in the company of people with peaceful, disciplined, wise, and constructive energy can strengthen your own character. Healthy associations can inspire greater focus, courage, wisdom, and determination.

Choose your friends, teachers, partners, and communities carefully. The people around you can influence your thoughts, decisions, habits, and understanding of life.

Do not surround yourself with people who encourage fear, laziness, bitterness, indiscipline, or hopelessness. Seek relationships that encourage you to pray, learn, work, grow, and fulfil your destiny.

Challenges Can Prepare You for Success

Struggle, effort, endurance, and strength are often part of the journey toward success. Do not immediately lose hope when challenges arise. Every difficulty handled with patience, wisdom, and discipline can move you closer to the place where your destiny will be fulfilled.

A Yoruba proverb teaches:

Ikoko ti o je ata, idi re ni lati gbona.

A cooking pot that prepares a delicious peppered meal must experience intense heat at its base.

The pot produces a nourishing meal because it remains upon the fire. It endures heat, pressure, and burning before its purpose is completed.

In the same way, the pressure of life can refine your character, deepen your wisdom, strengthen your discipline, and prepare you to carry greater blessings. This does not mean that suffering should be pursued or that every hardship must be tolerated. It means that unavoidable challenges can be transformed into lessons, strength, and progress.

Enter the Arena of Success

Launch yourself into the arena of success through daily discipline. Develop yourself at every level:

  • Strengthen your mind through learning and constructive thoughts.
  • Strengthen your body through movement, rest, and proper nourishment.
  • Strengthen your emotions through patience and self-control.
  • Strengthen your spirit through prayer, gratitude, good character, and appropriate spiritual observances.
  • Strengthen your future through wise decisions and consistent action.

You are a deity in essence—Iwo gangan l’Orisa—but do not become deluded into believing that everything must come easily.

What comes easily may also disappear easily. When you labor wisely, patiently, and diligently, you develop the capacity to preserve your blessings. You also establish positive habits, faith, calmness, and wisdom that can benefit generations.

This enduring spiritual culture is called Ìṣẹ̀ṣe—the sacred tradition handed down through the elders, deities, divinities, sages, saints, and saviors.

Do Not Become Like Atiala

Do not allow the winds of criticism, fear, doubt, hardship, or unfavorable circumstances to throw you in every direction.

Develop your wings.

Strengthen your mind.

Prepare your spirit.

Take responsible action.

Pray, work, learn, and remain disciplined.

The wind that overwhelms the unprepared can elevate the bird that has learned how to fly through it. Therefore, do not surrender your life to chance. Work consciously with your Ori, your character, your spiritual wisdom, and the support of Olodumare and His numerous divinities.

May you possess the strength to confront every wind in the jungle of life. May every challenge carry you closer to victory, fulfilment, wisdom, and generational blessings.

Ase.
