Oturupon Ogbe, also called Oturupongbe, speaks of the blessing of children and the responsibility of raising them with wisdom. Children need guidance and care so that they may grow well and avoid difficulties later in life.

Under this Odù, Ifá also speaks of sacrifice for the well-being of children, family members, loved ones and the work through which a household sustains itself. The teaching calls for attention to spiritual guidance and to the practical care of those entrusted to us.

Ifá advises offerings to Koori, Olomo, Ooge and Osun in response to threats against children, plans, businesses and livelihoods. Any offering should follow the guidance given through proper Ifá consultation.

A difa fun Eruku
Thus divined the Ifá oracle for Eruku.

Eyi ti awon ota fe fi ku omo yo lotu isalaye
Her adversaries wished to mock her because of the deaths of her children in the world of life.

Won ni ki o rubo nitori awon egbe omo re lorun
She was advised to offer sacrifice concerning the heavenly association of her children.

Won ni ko bo Koori, ko bo Ooge, ko lo mo bo Olomo ati Osun, ki o le bori iku omo ati bori iku ojiji
She was directed to make offerings to Koori, Ooge, Olomo and Osun, seeking protection for her children and against sudden death.

O gbo, o ru
She heard the instruction to offer sacrifice, and she did so.

O bori iku, o rehin odi
She overcame the threat of death and prevailed over the plans of her adversaries.

Erigi Alo, mama jeki ri iku omo, aya, oko ati ojulumo bayi
Erigi Alo, may I be spared the untimely death of my children, spouse and loved ones.

The Message of Oturupon Ogbe

The story of Eruku reminds us that children are a blessing who require devoted care. Raising them includes teaching good character, listening to their needs and giving them a secure foundation for the future.

It is also a prayer for the safety of the whole household. May our children and loved ones be protected. May we have the wisdom to recognize difficulties early, seek the right help and act with care. May the work and plans that support our families prosper.
