I want you to use your mind to pray for your mind—always.
This may sound strange at first. How can the mind pray for itself? Yet this teaching reveals an important spiritual truth: the mind must be consciously trained, strengthened and directed towards wisdom, light and peace.
Èmí Mi Ni Mo Ń Fi Jagun
“Èmí mi ni mo ń fi jagun.”
Literally, this means: “It is with my spirit that I fight,” or “I use my spirit to wage the battle.” This translation reflects the spiritual meaning intended here; jagun means to wage war or fight. edeyoruba.com
Within this Ìṣẹ̀ṣe teaching, the expression calls us to engage both the mind and spirit when confronting the battles of life. It does not encourage physical violence. It teaches us to overcome fear, anger, temptation, resentment and every inner condition that threatens our peace.
Protect Your Mind from Small Disturbances
Never allow little things to disturb your mind.
The bitter truth is that small provocations, temptations and acts of wickedness can trouble us mentally. When these disturbances are not properly addressed, they may gradually weaken our spiritual balance, emotional stability and physical well-being.
Not every insult deserves a response. Not every disagreement requires an argument. Not every provocation should be permitted to occupy your thoughts.
Protect your peace. Withdraw from unnecessary conflict and use your mind to restore your mind through prayer, patience, reflection and self-control.
Success and Strength Begin Within
Success and failure often begin in the mind. Strength and weakness are also influenced by our thoughts, beliefs, decisions and mental discipline.
Use your mind to pray for your mind. Ask that your thoughts bring forth goodness and help you recognise something constructive in every circumstance. This does not mean denying hardship. It means refusing to allow hardship to control your inner state or determine your destiny.
Train your mind to seek solutions instead of remaining imprisoned by problems. Teach it to recognise possibilities where fear sees only obstacles.
Practices That Strengthen the Mind and Spirit
A strong mind must be nourished continually. Helpful practices include:
- Reading and acquiring wisdom
- Praying with concentration
- Walking and moving the body
- Dancing and singing
- Lifting weights or exercising according to your health and ability
- Working diligently and meaningfully
- Expressing gratitude and appreciation
- Speaking positively to yourself
- Remaining peaceful during provocation
These practices strengthen the mind and guide it towards the light, love and wisdom of the Infinite Power that radiates throughout the universe.
Prayer nourishes the spirit. Reading develops understanding. Movement strengthens the body. Gratitude redirects the mind towards abundance. Discipline brings these practices together and transforms them into a way of life.
Grow Within Before Taking Action
Grow with your mind before taking action. Prepare yourself inwardly before taking important steps outwardly.
The mind is powerful. It is a centre of thought, decision, imagination and spiritual communication. Learn to shape it so that it becomes strong enough to handle the circumstances and uncertainties of life.
Believe firmly in yourself. Develop confidence in your ability to learn, improve, endure and prevail. Tell yourself:
I can overcome this challenge.
I can learn what is necessary.
I can succeed through wisdom and discipline.
I must continue moving towards prosperity, peace and fulfilment.
Positive words must be accompanied by responsible action. Prayer must walk together with work, wisdom and discipline.
Let Every Challenge Train You
Every challenge can become an opportunity to train the mind, body and spirit. Difficulties can teach patience, awaken hidden strength and reveal areas that require growth.
Speak positively to yourself with spiritual authority. Use your mind to train your aura, body, spirit and entire essence. Direct your thoughts towards growth, illumination, happiness, peace, harmony and joy.
Do not surrender your mind to fear, anger or resentment. Make it a sacred dwelling place of prayer, wisdom and divine light.
Ìwọ gan-an l’Òrìṣà—you are the true deity. Recognise the divine spark within you and use it responsibly to strengthen yourself, bless others and illuminate your surroundings.
Àṣẹ.
