Doing Good Requires Discipline

Doing good requires effort, discipline, dedication, hard work, determination, perseverance, and devotion. Just as plants need care, nourishment, water, and attention to flourish, a meaningful life must be carefully cultivated.

A life filled with happiness, joy, progress, peace, and success does not develop through desire alone. It must be structured, disciplined, balanced, faithful, loving, and filled with actions that bring blessings to creation.

Goodness is not always the easiest path, but it creates a foundation upon which individuals, families, and future generations can prosper.

Your Presence Carries Energy

The presence and words of certain people bring comfort, courage, wisdom, and hope into their homes and the lives of others. Their character has a healing and uplifting influence. When they speak, they encourage people to rise above fear, difficulty, and despair.

The words and conduct of others, however, may create sadness, anxiety, conflict, and destructive patterns whose effects continue across generations.

For this reason, never judge a person only by physical beauty, charm, status, or outward glamour. Look more deeply at the person’s mind, words, actions, consistency, and character. These reveal true intentions more clearly than outward appearances.

A beautiful face cannot compensate for destructive character. In the same way, a humble appearance may conceal extraordinary wisdom, love, and spiritual power.

Nurture Your Body, Mind and Spirit

When properly nurtured, the body, mind, and spirit can reflect light, love, and wisdom. When neglected or continually exposed to harmful habits, they may carry the weight of sadness, confusion, and destruction.

Take good care of your entire being:

  • Feed your mind with constructive knowledge.
  • Use your mouth for prayer and encouraging words.
  • Care for your body through nourishing food, movement, and rest.
  • Strengthen your spirit through gratitude and appropriate spiritual practice.
  • Develop emotional balance through patience and self-control.
  • Correct habits that repeatedly bring suffering into your life.
  • Seek responsible medical or psychological support when necessary.

Your spiritual development should support responsible care for your physical and mental wellbeing.

Choose Your Associations Wisely

Be mindful of the people with whom you associate. Exercise wisdom when deciding where you seek help, eat, drink, walk, speak, worship, work, or share private information.

This does not mean living in fear or automatically distrusting others. It means observing character carefully and making thoughtful decisions.

Ask yourself:

  • Does this association encourage wisdom or confusion?
  • Does this person respect life and human dignity?
  • Do their words produce peace or unnecessary conflict?
  • Are their actions consistent with what they teach?
  • Do they encourage discipline, honesty, and growth?
  • Do I become wiser and more responsible in their presence?
  • Are my personal and spiritual boundaries respected?

Some people walk themselves toward repeated misfortune through their choices and habits. Others walk steadily toward victory, peace, success, and generational blessings.

The direction of your life is influenced by the path you repeatedly choose.

Guard Your Mind, Mouth and Spirit

Take good care of your mind, mouth, and spirit. Your thoughts influence your emotions; your words influence your relationships; and your repeated actions shape your character.

Many great minds have devoted their lives to peace, harmony, wisdom, healing, and the welfare of humanity. Others use their knowledge, speech, or influence to criticise maliciously, condemn, deceive, injure, kidnap, kill, or destroy.

Avoid malicious criticism because it can become a foundation for resentment, hatred, and delusion. However, do not confuse destructive condemnation with honest and constructive correction. Wise correction, offered respectfully and with good intentions, can protect life and improve character.

Before criticising someone, examine your intention. Are you trying to correct with wisdom—or merely wound with words?

Odu as Prayer, Wisdom and Sacred Knowledge

The Odu are vessels of prayer, wisdom, tradition, and sacred knowledge. They preserve teachings connected with the mystical presence of Olodumare and the experiences of souls, spirits, ancestors, divinities, deities, and significant characters who have passed through the world of matter.

Through their teachings, these spiritual realities remain present in our lives. The Odu guide us in matters of character, sacrifice, relationships, responsibility, health, prosperity, and destiny.

They are not merely stories from the past. They offer principles through which present and future generations may understand life and respond wisely to its challenges.

Sacrifice as Advanced Prayer

Within Ìṣẹ̀ṣe Ifá, sacrifice may be understood as an advanced form of prayer involving prescribed materials, sacred words, intention, and spiritual responsibility.

Ẹbọ and Ètùtù are not random acts. They are undertaken to restore balance, address spiritual concerns, strengthen resolve, and align the individual with the guidance revealed through divination.

Sacrifice should be accompanied by:

  • Good character
  • Honest intentions
  • Prayer and gratitude
  • Mental and emotional discipline
  • Responsible physical action
  • Respect for life
  • Obedience to appropriate spiritual guidance

Sacrifices and rituals should be prescribed through proper divination and performed under the guidance of a knowledgeable and trustworthy Babalawo, Iyanifa, Oluwo, or qualified Ìṣẹ̀ṣe practitioner.

Spiritual practices may provide meaning, comfort, and strength, but they should not replace necessary medical, psychological, legal, or other professional care.

Pray With Faith and Commitment

Pray with faith, conviction, and commitment. Let prayer change the spiritual and emotional atmosphere within you. Allow it to strengthen your courage, clarify your thoughts, and direct you toward responsible action.

Prayer must not remain only in the mouth. It should become visible through:

  • Improved character
  • Disciplined habits
  • Compassionate conduct
  • Wise decisions
  • Meaningful work
  • Respectful speech
  • Service to others
  • Perseverance during hardship

When prayer, good character, discipline, and action work together, transformation becomes possible.

The Divine Power Within You

Embrace spiritual wisdom and align yourself with divine power. Maintain mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual discipline.

Do not allow harmful associations to weaken your character. Do not permit careless words to destroy your peace. Do not judge solely by appearances, and never surrender your mind to hatred, fear, or malicious criticism.

Cultivate goodness carefully, just as a wise farmer nurtures a precious plant. Let your presence bring peace, your words bring encouragement, and your actions add value to creation.

Iwo gangan l’Orisa.

You are the true deity.

Let the divine light within you become visible through wisdom, love, discipline, and good character.

We are blessed.

Ase.
