Ìwọ Gan-an l’Òrìṣà: You Are Not a Lesser Human Being

You are not a lesser human being or an insignificant creature. You are a sacred life force—an Orí-sà-dá, one chosen by destiny and selected by the Infinite Essence.

Ìwọ gan-an l’Òrìṣà.
You yourself are the true Òrìṣà.

The fullness of divine energy available to the saint, saviour, sage and Òrìṣà is also present within creation and available to you. This power does not remove personal responsibility. Instead, it calls you to awaken, develop your character and use your life to serve a meaningful purpose.

Recognizing Olódùmarè in All Things

Learn to recognize the power and presence of Olódùmarè and His numerous divinities throughout creation. See the sacred Presence operating at every level of existence—in your home, family, work, business and community.

Recognize divine wisdom during favourable and difficult circumstances: in prosperity and poverty, strength and weakness, sickness and healing. This does not mean that every painful condition is desirable. It means that no condition is beyond the reach of divine wisdom, human effort and compassionate assistance.

The indwelling force of Olódùmarè is present throughout the living and non-living dimensions of creation. Gratitude helps us recognize this power and opens our awareness to the blessings, opportunities and support already surrounding us.

Be grateful in all circumstances—not because every experience is pleasant, but because wisdom, transformation and renewed purpose can arise even from adversity.

Your Character Shapes Your Destiny

Discipline, mental focus, emotional stability, patience and good character play significant roles in shaping your life and destiny.

Within your essence resides the wisdom required to recognize and manifest your spiritual power. However, this power must be developed through conscious living. Divine potential without discipline may remain dormant.

Strive every day to do good for yourself, for others and for creation. Refrain from unnecessary conflict, and remain determined not to destroy your peace, health or future through harmful conduct.

Work to overcome:

  • uncontrolled anger and impatience;
  • drunkenness, smoking and harmful drug use;
  • gluttony and unhealthy excess;
  • immorality and irresponsible conduct;
  • laziness, idleness and stagnation;
  • fear, excessive worry and anxiety;
  • doubt and destructive thoughts;
  • resentment, hatred and revenge;
  • constant criticism, condemnation and complaining; and
  • emotions and behaviours that injure you or those around you.

Good character does not mean perfection. It means honestly recognizing your weaknesses, accepting responsibility and continually working to improve yourself.

Faith During Illness and Adversity

If you become ill, seek the presence of Olódùmarè within the experience, but do not surrender to fear. Maintain faith that the power that created and sustains life can provide wisdom, assistance, strength and pathways toward healing.

Healing is sacred, yet it may come through different channels. Olódùmarè may work through prayer, medicine, physicians, therapists, family members, spiritual elders, herbs, knowledge, rest or unexpected assistance.

Use prayer, fasting and appropriate spiritual practices to strengthen your mind and spirit. At the same time, use responsible medical care to protect and support your body. Seeking qualified medical help does not demonstrate weak faith; it may be one of the instruments through which divine assistance reaches us.

Prayer and gratitude can strengthen hope, resilience and inner peace, while medical treatment addresses the physical dimensions of illness. These approaches can work together responsibly.

Do Your Part

Pray, trust and develop firm spiritual conviction. When prescribed through appropriate divination and guided by a trustworthy priest or elder, offer sacrifice and honour your ancestral lineage through the power of Olódùmarè and the divinities.

Do not remain idle or stagnant. Move your body, work with your hands and use your mind. Fill your thoughts with prayer, wisdom, gratitude and constructive intentions.

Care for your physical wellbeing through:

  • regular movement and suitable exercise;
  • nutritious food and adequate hydration;
  • maintaining a healthy weight for your individual body;
  • sufficient sleep and recovery;
  • avoiding tobacco and recreational drugs;
  • avoiding or limiting alcohol;
  • reducing foods and drinks that negatively affect your health; and
  • obtaining appropriate medical guidance.

Health needs differ from person to person. Let wisdom—not punishment, shame or obsession—guide the way you care for your body.

Do what lies within your power, and remain open to the assistance of the Infinite Power.

You Are a Messenger of Life

You are human, but you are also a sacred messenger entrusted with the responsibility to add value to life. Your presence should contribute wisdom, peace, encouragement and compassion to the world.

Do not spend your life remaining idle and complaining. Refrain from constant condemnation, destructive criticism and hatred. Such habits disturb the mind and may negatively affect your relationships, opportunities and fulfilment of destiny.

Love creation.
Respect all creatures.
Honour the Creator.
Care for your body.
Discipline your mind.
Strengthen your character.
Use your life to support life.

May Olódùmarè guide your Ori, strengthen your body, illuminate your mind and bless you from generation to generation.

Ìwọ gan-an l’Òrìṣà.
You yourself are the true Òrìṣà.

Àṣẹ.
