Ogbe Ìdí speaks of blockage, obstacles, stubbornness, and unexpected challenges, but it also establishes that through the appropriate sacrifice and spiritual steps, victory, success, progress, happiness, harmony, and peace can manifest.

Ifá warns us strongly against stubbornness.

It also advises us to avoid alcohol, most especially wine, in order to prevent intoxication from leading to misbehaviour, molestation, disgrace, disaster, and other unfortunate consequences.

The message is clear: when wisdom gives us a warning, we should not allow stubbornness to prevent us from listening.

A problem that could have been avoided through obedience can become a serious obstacle when advice is ignored.

OGBE ÌDÍ AND ÒRÌṢÀÁLÁ

Ifá says that those associated with this Odù should worship, honour, and offer the appropriate sacrifices to Obàtálá — Òrìṣàálá—particularly concerning the blessing and gift of a child or children.

Òrìṣàálá should also be approached for the support, protection, direction, and well-being of children.

The individual should likewise appease Èṣù Ọ̀dàrà to overcome stubbornness and prevent the disgrace and misfortune that can arise from refusing appropriate guidance.

Ifá warns that if stubbornness is not controlled, its consequences can become increasingly serious and may eventually lead to great misfortune or even untimely death.

Therefore, stubbornness should never be confused with strength.

There are moments when strength means standing firm.

But there are also moments when wisdom means listening, accepting correction, and changing direction.

ÈṢẸ IFÁ LÁBẸ́ ODÙ OGBE ÌDÍ

According to an Ifá verse under Ogbedì or Ogbe Ìdí:

Ifá rere ni Ogbedì.

Ogbedì is a good Ifá.

A dífá fún Òrìṣàálá
tí kò jẹ́ ta ọmọ tirẹ̀ lọ́pọ̀.

Thus divined Ifá oracle for Òrìṣàálá, who would not sell his own children for less.

A tẹ̀ fún Èṣù Ọ̀dàrà
tí ó ní kí àwọn ọmọ má lọ sí oko,
nítorí kí wọ́n má jẹ ìyà àìmọ̀dìí.

Thus initiated Èṣù Ọ̀dàrà, who warned his children not to go into the jungle because of unexpected challenges and problems.

Ṣùgbọ́n wọ́n kọ etí ọgbọ́n sí ẹbọ.

But because of stubbornness, they refused to listen to the advice and spiritual instruction.

Àṣẹ̀hìnwá, àṣẹ̀hìnbọ̀.

Without wasting time and without delay.

Wọ́n gbọnà oko lọ,
ibi ja lù bí,
ọ̀nà dì mọ́ wọn.

They went straight into the jungle, but there they encountered problems, obstacles, and blockage. Their path became closed before them.

Ela Iwori,
má má jẹ́ kí n ṣorí burúkú
nítorí àìgbọ́ràn báyìí.

Ela Iwori, never allow disaster or misfortune to become my portion because of stubbornness and disobedience.

THE CENTRAL MESSAGE OF OGBE ÌDÍ

Ifá predicts the possibility of stubbornness, challenges, obstacles, and blockage, but it does not leave the individual without a solution.

Through the appropriate sacrifice to Èṣù, blockage can be transformed and the road toward blessings, victory, and success can be opened.

Through the appropriate rituals and spiritual attention to Obàtálá Òrìṣàálá, we seek support, protection, guidance, and direction for our children and also the blessing of children.

The deeper lesson is that sometimes the greatest blockage is not outside us—it is our refusal to listen.

A person may possess intelligence but refuse advice.

A person may receive a warning but ignore it.

A person may see danger but continue walking toward it.

A person may receive spiritual guidance but allow ego and stubbornness to prevail.

Ogbe Ìdí teaches us that wisdom includes knowing when to stop, when to listen, when to change direction, and when to take the necessary spiritual steps.

Do not allow alcohol to destroy your judgment.

Do not allow stubbornness to close an otherwise open road.

Do not allow ego to prevent you from accepting wise counsel.

Take care of your children.

Seek the protection and guidance of Òrìṣàálá.

Appease Èṣù when prescribed.

Perform the appropriate sacrifice.

Listen when Ifá speaks.

Because when stubbornness is replaced by wisdom, and the appropriate sacrifice is performed, blockage can give way to victory, success, progress, happiness, harmony, and peace.

Ela Iwori, má jẹ́ kí àìgbọ́ràn ba ìpín wa jẹ́.

May Ela Iwori never allow stubbornness and disobedience to destroy our destiny.

May Òrìṣàálá protect and guide our children.

May Èṣù Ọ̀dàrà remove blockage from our paths.

May the obstacles before us give way to victory.
