Ifá teaches under Òsá Gbé that the joy of life arises from the simple but powerful attitudes of gratitude and thankfulness.

Those who cultivate gratitude, prayer, patience, and calmness prepare themselves to recognise and receive the blessings of Olódùmarè and the numerous divinities. These qualities can also positively influence their families, loved ones, and future generations.

Gratitude does not mean that life will always be easy. It means that hardship is not permitted to erase our awareness of every blessing that remains.

View Life From a Spiritual Standpoint

Òsá Gbé advises us to examine every experience—challenges, problems, difficulties, blessings, success, and good fortune—from a spiritual standpoint.

Many people express happiness when they receive profit, progress, recognition, or success. There is nothing wrong with celebrating a genuine blessing. However, spiritual wisdom is revealed more deeply by the character we maintain when life becomes difficult.

It is easy to give thanks when everything is going well.

The greater spiritual discipline is to continue praying, expressing gratitude, blessing life, and maintaining good character during trials and uncertainty.

Gratitude during hardship does not require us to pretend that pain is pleasant or injustice is acceptable. It means refusing to allow suffering to destroy our character, prayer, hope, and connection with Olódùmarè.

Your Condition Does Not Define You

Ifá says that your present condition should not define you. Instead, it should reveal the wisdom, knowledge, discipline, and character that exist within you.

A difficult season may reveal:

  • The depth of your patience.
  • The strength of your character.
  • The sincerity of your prayer.
  • The quality of your decisions.
  • The wisdom you have acquired.
  • Your willingness to seek appropriate assistance.
  • Your ability to remain grateful without denying reality.

You are more than your present circumstances. A challenge is an experience within your journey; it is not the complete identity of your life or destiny.

Spiritual Practices for a Fulfilled Life

Òsá Gbé emphasises spiritual practices such as sacrifice, rituals, daily prayer, fasting, and gratitude. Within Ìṣẹ̀ṣe Ifá tradition, these practices help the individual remain connected to Orí, destiny, the ancestors, Olódùmarè, and the divinities.

Spiritual practices should be accompanied by good character, patience, practical wisdom, and responsible action.

Prayer should guide conduct.

Sacrifice should deepen responsibility.

Fasting should strengthen discipline.

Gratitude should inspire service.

Ritual should restore balance and spiritual awareness.

A prosperous and fulfilled life is not built through spiritual practice alone, but through the union of spiritual wisdom, good character, disciplined effort, and appropriate action.

Attitude and the Unfolding of Destiny

Our attitude plays a powerful role in how destiny unfolds.

We cannot control every event, but we can influence how we respond. During hardship, avoid developing habits that produce additional confusion, conflict, or destruction.

Do not let disappointment transform you into a bitter person.

Do not let success turn you into an arrogant person.

Do not let temporary misfortune persuade you that your destiny has ended.

Do not let prosperity make you forget the Source of your blessings.

Ifá teaches that you are a spiritual being. Therefore, allow your spiritual growth and divine wisdom to rise to a higher level. Learn to recognise that both fortune and misfortune may contain lessons capable of contributing to wisdom.

This does not mean that every painful event is good or that injustice should be accepted without action. It means that no experience should be wasted. Even hardship can produce awareness, courage, compassion, preparation, and spiritual maturity.

The Higher Perspective of Òsá Gbé

At a higher level of spiritual understanding, Òsá Gbé teaches balance and interconnectedness. Life contains light and darkness, gain and loss, movement and rest, joy and sorrow.

From this elevated perspective, we learn not to judge our entire destiny according to one temporary event.

Success does not make one person greater than all others.

Misfortune does not make another person spiritually worthless.

Every person remains part of the greater order of creation.

Through wisdom, experiences can be transformed into lessons, and lessons can become instruments of growth and future blessings.

Ẹsẹ Ifá Under Òsá Gbé

Ẹsẹ Ifá lábẹ́ Odù Òsá Gbé

Mo Ni Osa Gbe Mi, O Ni Osa Gbe Ohun Naa

I said, “May Òsá support and uplift me.” The other responded that they also needed the support of Òsá.

This opening establishes the universal need for spiritual support. No person is entirely independent of divine assistance, community, nature, and the sacred forces sustaining creation.

Gbogbo Eni Ti O Ti Osa Wa, Ni Osa N Gbe

All those who come from Òsá receive the support, upliftment, success, and blessings of Òsá.

Eranko Lo Ti Osa Wa, Ni Osa N Gbe

Even the animals that come from Òsá experience the support of Òsá.

Eye, Eja, Tabi Eera Lo Ti Osa Wa, Ni Osa N Gbe

The birds, fish, and ants that come from Òsá also experience the support and blessings of Òsá.

The verse extends divine support beyond human beings. Animals, birds, fish, insects, and the natural world all participate in the sacred order of creation.

Ori Ade Lo Ti Osa Wa, Ni Osa N Gbe

The crowned head also comes from Òsá and shall receive great blessings and good fortune through the support of Òsá.

The crowned head represents honour, leadership, dignity, authority, and elevated responsibility.

Erigi Alo, Tete Jeki Osa Gbe Mi Lotu Isalaye Bayi, Ifa

Erigi Alo, let the blessings and good fortune of Òsá support, uplift, and surround me now in the jungle of life. Oh, Ifá.

This prayer asks not merely for material success but for spiritual support throughout the difficulties of earthly existence.

The Spiritual Instructions of Òsá Gbé

Ifa ni eniti a da Odu yi fun, ki o fun awon Iyaami Osoronga lebo, ki o lo bo Aje, Olokun oun Olosa, ki Osa le gbe oluwa re lotu isalaye.

Ifá says that the person for whom this Odù is divined should offer the prescribed sacrifice to Ìyáàmi Òṣòròngà—the primordial Mothers and Elders of the nightly rites. The individual should also make the appropriate offerings to Òrìṣà Ajé, Olókun, and Olóṣà so that Òsá may support and uplift them in the jungle of life.

The spiritual work prescribed under this Odù should be undertaken with proper divination and guidance from a knowledgeable and trustworthy Ifá priest. The exact sacrifice or offering should not be guessed, generalised, or performed carelessly.

The Central Message of Òsá Gbé

Òsá Gbé teaches us to:

  • Remain grateful in prosperity and adversity.
  • Pray daily and maintain spiritual discipline.
  • Cultivate patience, calmness, and good character.
  • Refuse to let temporary conditions define our identity.
  • View challenges from a place of wisdom rather than despair.
  • Honour Ìyáàmi Òṣòròngà and follow the guidance revealed through Ifá.
  • Seek the support of Ajé, Olókun, and Olóṣà where prescribed.
  • Celebrate success without arrogance.
  • Experience hardship without abandoning hope.
  • Transform every experience into wisdom and spiritual growth.

True gratitude is not merely saying “thank you” when we receive what we desire. It is the spiritual discipline of recognising life, wisdom, support, and possibility even when the road is difficult.

May Òsá support and uplift us.

May gratitude remain within our hearts.

May prayer remain upon our lips.

May patience guide our conduct.

May Olódùmarè and the numerous divinities bless our lives and future generations.

Aṣẹ.
