Patience in our endeavours does not signify weakness, stupidity, foolishness or insanity. It is an expression of pure wisdom and spiritual strength—the power to excel in our work, responsibilities and undertakings.
Patience does not mean waiting passively without taking action. It means remaining consistent, persistent and focused while working toward the desired result. It is the discipline to continue using your mind, body, words and abilities while expecting positive transformation.
Through patient and disciplined action, we prepare ourselves to receive miracles, success, victory, prosperity, peace, inner harmony, serenity and the blessings of Olódùmarè and His numerous divinities.
Sùúrù ni Baba Ìwà
Ifá teaches:
Sùúrù ni baba Ìwà.
This means:
Patience is the father and foundation of good character.
A person who possesses the spirit of patience attracts the blessings of Olódùmarè and the Irúnmọlẹ̀. Such a person may enjoy the blessings of Olódùmarè through Ifá from generation to generation.
Patience is inseparable from Ìwà rere—good character—and Ìwà pẹ̀lẹ́—gentle, peaceful and harmonious conduct. Without patience, anger takes control of the mind, provocation governs our actions and temporary difficulties may destroy valuable relationships and opportunities.
With patience, however, we gain the clarity to recognize what must be accepted, what must be changed and what requires persistent effort.
Patience Is Active Spiritual Discipline
When investing your time, money, energy or life in a meaningful purpose, patience often makes the difference between abandonment and accomplishment.
Patience requires us to:
- continue working even when results are not immediately visible;
- remain focused despite distractions;
- make wise adjustments when circumstances change;
- control our words during provocation;
- refuse to surrender to fear, worry or doubt;
- learn from mistakes without condemning ourselves;
- pray while also taking practical action; and
- trust divine timing without becoming idle.
Patience is not an excuse for tolerating abuse, injustice or preventable harm. It includes the wisdom to establish boundaries, seek assistance and take appropriate action without allowing anger or revenge to govern us.
Patience, Healing and Inner Peace
Patience creates an inner atmosphere of calmness in which the soul can experience the power of Olódùmarè and the divinities. It supports emotional balance, clear thinking and the disciplined actions required for healing and transformation.
A patient person is better able to benefit from the visible and invisible resources of creation—from wisdom, relationships and opportunities to prayer, spiritual guidance and ancestral support.
Be patient with yourself as you learn and grow. Be patient with others while maintaining healthy boundaries. Be patient with your work, your family and your spiritual development. Through patience, you may discover the truth within yourself and recognize the divine light surrounding you.
The Power to Remain Calm
The ability to remain calm, strong and wise in the face of provocation reveals the power of patience. When you refuse to allow another person’s words to disturb your inner peace, you retain authority over your thoughts, emotions and actions.
You cannot always control what others say or do, but you can develop the discipline to determine your response.
Never allow the careless words of another person to dictate the direction of your destiny. Let patience guide your mind, wisdom guide your mouth and good character guide your actions.
Be calm and patient enough to recognize divine victory, success, blessings, healing, breakthroughs, miracles and wonders as they unfold in your life.
Pray, Work, Walk and Wait Wisely
Do not forget your daily prayer. Work diligently with your hands and mind. Walk forward with determination, and wait patiently without abandoning your responsibilities.
Prayer without action can become empty expectation. Action without patience can lead to frustration and exhaustion. Patience brings prayer, discipline, work and divine trust together.
Be well.
Be calm.
Be disciplined.
Be patient.
Your success, victory, blessings, healing, peace, harmony, strength and breakthrough are being established through your disciplined thoughts, words and actions.
Continue to pray, work, walk and wait wisely for the manifestation of divine blessings in your life and throughout your generations.
Ìwọ gan-an l’Òrìṣà.
You are the true divinity.
Àṣẹ.
