Delay Is Not Denial: The Power of Consistent Action and Sacred Communication

Aboru Aboye.

Delay is not denial.

Impatience is a disease that weakens vision. Lack of focus is a serious illness that distracts the soul from its purpose. Worry creates unnecessary suffering, while fear becomes a barrier that has prevented countless destinies from reaching their fulfillment.

Ifá teaches that steady, purposeful movement is one of the foundations of success. Walking, working, and moving consistently toward one’s goals, despite delays and challenges, eventually produces lasting blessings.

This wisdom is beautifully expressed in Odu Otúrúpọ̀n Méjì:

“Ọ̀un jẹ ayé Ifá wẹ́lẹ̀mù wẹ́lẹ̀mù bí ẹni lá oyin.”

This may be understood as:

“To live under the blessings and guidance of Ifá is like tasting the sweetness of honey.”

The sweetness of life does not come through haste but through consistency, discipline, and faithful perseverance.

Ifá also reminds us that communication is sacred.

A person who repeatedly fails to respond wisely, breaks promises, neglects responsibilities, delays necessary action, or communicates carelessly with family, community, or the divine gradually weakens the foundation of destiny. According to the tradition, these patterns do not affect only the individual but may also influence future generations.

True communication extends far beyond speech.

It includes:

  • Prayer.
  • Sacrifice.
  • Ritual.
  • Offerings.
  • Initiation.
  • Good character.
  • Positive thinking.
  • Honest words.
  • Timely action.
  • Keeping one’s promises.
  • Respecting commitments.
  • Responding with sincerity and responsibility.

Communication is also expressed in how we relate to our parents, siblings, children, friends, community, Ori, the Òrìṣà, the Irúnmọ̀lẹ̀, Ẹgbẹ́, Egúngún, Ilé Ògéré, and ultimately to Olódùmarè.

When a person becomes consumed by destructive habits—such as habitual drunkenness, smoking, gambling, uncontrolled anger, resentment, lust, dishonesty, wastefulness, or continual separation from family and spiritual responsibility—they gradually lose not only healthy communication with others but also communication with their own soul.

Within the Ifá worldview, this separation weakens one’s relationship with Ori and distances the individual from divine guidance.

The jungle of life is demanding.

It rewards those who cultivate wisdom, discipline, responsibility, and meaningful relationships.

Therefore, fill your mind with prayer.

Fill your speech with truth.

Fill your life with positive words and constructive actions inspired by the wisdom of Olódùmarè through Ifá.

Honor your parents.

Respect your family.

Bless your children.

Overcome destructive habits.

Strengthen your character.

Through these daily choices, you invite the blessings of both the visible and the unseen worlds.

Within the Isese tradition, sacred materials may be used with reverence to accompany prayer and spiritual practice, helping the practitioner align with Ori, the ancestors, and the divine order established by Olódùmarè.

May the blessings of Gbale, the ancestral realm, flow into your life.

May your words create peace.

May your actions reflect wisdom.

May your communication strengthen your destiny.

May Olódùmarè bless you today and forever.
