Aboru Aboye.
Throughout my journey, I have rarely witnessed a truly good, honorable, patient, humble, and disciplined person ultimately become a victim of the evils of the past, the misfortunes of the present, or the calamities of the future. Such a soul is protected by the laws of nature, by Isese, and by the divine order established by Olódùmarè and the numerous divinities.
Your present habits, character, and moral conduct toward your fellow human beings, your Ori, the Òrìṣà, the Irúnmọ̀lẹ̀, Ẹgbẹ́ Ayé, Ẹgbẹ́ Ọ̀run, and your ancestral lineage all influence your journey through life. They shape your peace, joy, success, harmony, longevity, and the fulfillment of your destiny at every level of existence.
Good deeds and harmful actions do not end with the physical body. Their effects continue beyond the visible world, moving through the spiritual realms until they reach Ìrónà—the sacred boundaries and meeting point between the different levels of existence.
Remember to nourish both your body and your spirit.
Feed your body with wholesome food so that you may benefit from the gifts of Mother Earth. At the same time, nourish your spiritual life by honoring your Ori, the Òrìṣà, the Irúnmọ̀lẹ̀, Ifá, your Ẹgbẹ́, and your ancestral lineage. In the Isese tradition, this spiritual nourishment may include simple offerings such as water, gin, obi, orogbo, àtàrẹ, daily ìwúrẹ̀ (prayers), iyẹ̀rẹ̀òsùn used to mark sacred Odu, akara, owó ẹyọ̀ (cowries), and other traditional spiritual materials offered with sincerity and reverence.
The unseen is often more powerful than the seen.
The air you breathe is invisible, yet it sustains your entire existence. Without it, the body cannot survive. Likewise, your soul—your true essence—is unseen, yet it is the very life within your body and the source of your spiritual presence. The divine energies and sacred forces that surround creation are also unseen, yet they are living realities within the worldview of Ifá and Isese, deserving of reverence, gratitude, and proper spiritual observance.
Do not neglect your soul while navigating the jungle of life.
Bring forth the goodness already placed within you through prayer, sacrifice, ritual, discipline, honest work, daily movement, positive thinking, good actions, and wholesome emotions. We are deeply influenced by our emotional lives. Every practice that cultivates gratitude, peace, joy, hope, and positive emotions strengthens both the individual and the community.
This is the essence of Isese.
Isese is more than ritual. It is the living tradition of our ancestors—a way of life built upon good character (ìwà), patience, wisdom, discipline, focus, spiritual awareness, emotional balance, mental strength, and continual self-development.
As the elders teach:
Isese a gbe wa ooo.
May Isese—the sacred tradition of our ancestors—support and bless us.
Ori ẹni ni Isese.
Our destiny (Ori) is an essential part of the sacred tradition.
Ẹda ẹni ni Isese l’aye.
Our Creator is the foundation of the sacred tradition in the world.
Isese ooo lawa se ooo.
May we faithfully practice and uphold the sacred traditions.
Ká ẹni b’Òrìṣà.
May we honor and live in harmony with the Òrìṣà.
By embracing the traditions of our ancestors with sincerity, wisdom, and good character, we align ourselves with the divine order of creation. Through Isese, we seek not only blessings for today but enduring peace, fulfillment, and spiritual prosperity for generations to come.
