Olódùmarè as Olofin Ọ̀run, Ọlọ́run and Orìsé

Olódùmarè is also called Olofin Ọ̀run or Ọlọ́run.

The name Olofin is first brought to the attention of humanity in the account of Odùduwà and his brother arriving through the divine chain from Ọ̀run, the heavenly plane of existence, into the physical plane of existence called Ayé Àkàmàrà, or Ìsàlàyé.

According to this teaching, Odùduwà settled at Ilé-Ifẹ̀, the sacred city of divinities and humans, while Olofin chose Ìdánrè as his permanent home. Ìdánrè is also the town where Oloye, Oluwo Olayinka Babatunde Ogunsina Adewuyi was born.

Olofin became the first king of Ìdánrè and was known as Olofin Ajalaye of the sacred city of Ìdánrè.

The name Olofin signifies the lord of the palace, or the king who occupies the palace, while Ajalaye signifies the one who has authority over life or the world.

Olofin is therefore presented as a deity of the highest pedigree.

OLOFIN AND ODÙDUWÀ

There are different traditional accounts concerning the relationship between Olofin and Odùduwà.

Some myths maintain that:

Olofin is Odùduwà, and Odùduwà is Olofin.

However, according to the teaching presented here, Olofin can also be understood as one of the greatest divinities, while Odùduwà represents another personality of immense importance—the father and mother of the people known today as the Yoruba.

The two names nevertheless share a profound divine linkage with Olódùmarè.

Olofin Ọ̀run is one of the names by which we refer to Olódùmarè, Adeda Aseda, Olori Ayé Pátápátá—the supreme authority over existence.

Odùduwà, meanwhile, is connected in this teaching with the concept of Odù, from which character and individual existence are brought forth.

Here, character should not be understood merely as human behaviour or conduct. It also signifies the individual being, essence or soul brought into existence.

Therefore, the relationship between the names Odùduwà, Olofin and Olódùmarè signifies something much deeper: the transmission of divine, spiritual and mystical existence, authority and knowledge from the realm of spirit into the physical state of existence.

THE POWER WITHIN THE NAME OF OLÓDÙMARÈ

Calling upon the holy name of Olódùmarè is itself understood as an act of spiritual connection.

Through the name, we seek to strengthen our being and align ourselves with the supreme source of divine energy, wisdom and power.

The name of Olódùmarè represents:

strength, power, energy, radiance, luminosity, victory, success, harmony, peace, serenity, happiness, joy, good health, wealth, prosperity, love and blessings extending from generation to generation.

The name signifies maximum spiritual vibration, dynamic energy and power extending beyond ordinary human comprehension.

Olódùmarè is not simply a name to be spoken without understanding. The name points toward the supreme and supernatural reality behind existence itself.

OLOFIN AJALỌ̀RUN AND ORÌSÉ

Olofin Ajalọ̀run, another name or expression associated with Olódùmarè, is also known as Orìsé in a local dialect peculiar to the people of Ìdánrè.

An important distinction must be made here between Orìsé and Orísè.

Although these expressions may appear similar when written without the appropriate tonal marks, their meanings and pronunciation differ.

Within this teaching, Orìsé refers to Olódùmarè or Olofin Ajalọ̀run.

The related expression Orísè carries the meaning of the source from which the soul emanates—the place or source from which human beings originate.

Yet when properly understood, both concepts ultimately direct our attention toward Olódùmarè, because the ultimate origin and source of human souls and existence is Olódùmarè.

The tonal marks and pronunciation are therefore important, because Yoruba is a tonal language and changes in tone can produce significant changes in meaning.

THE SUPREME POWER

Olódùmarè signifies the supernatural, supreme and infinite power that exists at all levels of existence.

Olódùmarè is the source.

Olódùmarè is divine authority.

Olódùmarè is creative power.

Olódùmarè is wisdom.

Olódùmarè is the foundation from which the spiritual and physical dimensions of existence ultimately derive their meaning.

Whether we approach this supreme reality through the names Olódùmarè, Ọlọ́run, Olofin Ọ̀run, Olofin Ajalọ̀run, Orìsé, Adeda, Aseda or Olori Ayé Pátápátá, we are directing our consciousness toward the supreme power behind creation.
